Crufts 2015 starts a week today. For the forth year in a row, we will be there to check it out.
So what have we been doing to prepare? It comes down to three main areas:
- Looking good!
More on the second two later, but let's start with...
There's not much you can do about the general conformation of a dog - it's down to good breeding. But no dog is perfect and there is plenty you can do to get the best out of what you have.
As well as helping your dog look good, by carrying some muscle, fitness is vital for the show day itself. All the noise, smells and general excitement mean that events are exhausting for dogs. Being fit will help them cope. Even if their owner still goes home worn out.
Of course, the girls always get their daily walks anyway, and I'm always keeping an eye on their weight, but our daily walks in the lead up to Crufts have emcompassed...
- Lots of on-lead pavement pounding - good for stamina and keeping claws short
- Some jumping - strength-building
Last, but certainly not least...
- as much off-lead running as possible - good for keeping them happy!
