Review: Thirsty Milo

22 February 2014

What is it?

It's possibly the solution to your on-the-road water needs.

The Thirsty Milo is a travel/portable dog bowl, made from sturdy, dishwasher safe, recyclable plastic.  It holds 1.5 l of water and has an integral lid, so you can avoid spills on the move.  It also floats (with the lid on), so you can take it on the water without worrying about losing it.  The large volume makes it ideal for longer trips and walks.

The opening is large enough for all but the biggest breed, and smaller dogs will be able to share.

The comfortable handle and slimline shape make it possible to hold in the same hand as a lead, so it's ideal for short walks or popping to the pub.

Downsides are that it's quite bulky, so you can't just stick it in your pocket.  Also, the top is difficult to screw on tight enough to stop leaks completely.  And, if you manage it, it's then very difficult to get off again.  If you have weak wrists, make sure you don't over-fill it and also store it flat while you're travelling.  Another small downside is that it only comes in two rather vivid colour combinations: Princess Pink and Sunburst Orange.  Personally, I'd prefer something a little more subtle...

Once your travels are over, clean it with a gentle detergent and rinse well.  Use a soft towel to dry it as much as possible, then pop it somewhere warm to dry completely before putting away until your next adventure.

It's not perfect, but I have used it loads more than I thought I would.  It's been all over the place with me and the dogs.
