There is something wonderful about a dog-friendly pub.  Leather armchairs, open fires, a drink in your hand and a dog at your feet...

The idea of dog-friendly varies wildly though, from barely tolerate to all-out love.  I’ve visited pubs which hardly acknowledge dogs and you have to ask for water, to pubs where the staff rush out to greet new arrivals with cuddles and treats.  Many will provide bowls of water ... although I’d recommend taking your own bowl for hygiene. When it comes to eating, many pubs are split into three areas: the patio/garden and bar, where dogs are welcome, and the restaurant, where they’re not.  Don’t rely on being able to book a table in the garden or bar and always double-check with the pub before making a special journey.
